that we participate in at Silver Lane Quilting!
Quilt Pink • Baby Doll Blankets • Quilts of Valor

Better Homes and Gardens with American Patchwork & Quilting announces the 2008 Quilt Pink charity auction. Quilt Pink has launched the official charity auction of hundreds of quilts to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure to end breast cancer. Thousands of quilters across North America have come together in support of raising money and awareness by creating unique "Pink" Quilts in the aid to eradicate breast cancer, one stitch at a time.
Quilt Pink is more than just another fundraiser. Each quilt is a unique work of art. And each has its own story: This year, buyers and sellers are encouraged to access the Quilt Pink Community Page to comment and share their own personal reasons for participation. The community page, provided by GivingRoom will connect buyers, sellers and supporters in an interactive forum allowing buyers and quilt makers to upload video and pictures. Visit this page at http://quiltpink.givingroom.com/
Since 2004, the Quilt Pink campaign has helped bring over 100,000 quilters and non-quilters alike together in fighting the disease that affects 1 in 9 women at some point in their lives.
Bidders are encouraged to join Quilt Pink as the quilt auction is currently live.
Please visit http://www.ebay.com/quiltpink to both bid and become involved in the community forums.
About Susan G. Komen for the Cure: In 1982, a sister’s promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, we have invested nearly $1 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. About Quilt Pink: In conjunction with thousands of retail supports and quilters across the nation, Quilt Pink has spearheaded the creation and sale of over 4,000 quilts to date. All proceeds from this drive have supported Susan G. Komen for the Cure campaign.

Last year, Silver Lane Quilting customers created/donated over 350 baby doll blankets! Carol, Elaine and others delivered them to reputable area toy distribution centers in early December. These agencies added our quilted baby doll blankets to a Christmas doll/stuffed animal making their new friend extra special! Let’s once again spend just a few evenings between now and November to make Christmas brighter for these needing children. |
Idea Shared
Tell your family and friends that you are making baby doll blankets for needy children. Challenge them to match your blankets with a new doll or teddy bear!
Thanks for the great idea. |
The challenge is on!
A fellow SLQ customer has dropped off a total of 100 (yes, one-hundred) 12” teddy bears and baby dolls. She would like all of you to help make Baby Doll Blankets! |
The patterns provided here are to help spark your creativity. You may use any pattern you already have or put together four orphan quilt block (put them to good use).
Just keep the following in mind as you make your doll blankets in 2008:
- *Keep your blankets sized between 18” and 28” square
- *Stitch with this frame of mind will keep us all quality focused: “would I give this to my son/daughter, niece/nephew or granddaughter/ grandson”
- *Fabrics should be good quality and clean
- *Double check your bindings that they are securely attached. They should be able to stand up to lots of love and repeated washing!
- *Yes, we would love for you to donate new dolls and/or teddy bears with your blankets

Quilts of Valor
|
|
The mission of the QOV Foundation is to cover ALL war wounded and injured service members and veterans from the War on Terror whether physical or psychological wounds with Wartime quilts called Quilts of Valor (QOVS).
This foundation is not about politics. It's about people. |
Wounded Soldiers, Marines, Sailors and Airman want to know two things: How their buddy is doing and does the average American care about their contributions in keeping terrorism away from our shores.
The answer to the first is given by the military. The answer to the second can only be given by the average American.
And, one way you can do this, is to help make a Quilt of Valor (QOV). Our mission is to cover ALL wounded and injured service members from the War on Terror, whether physical or psychological wounds, with a wartime QOV.
There are four ways to get involved in the QOV process and a one of them doesn't even involve sewing!
- Make a finished QOV quilt and bring it to Silver Lane Quilting/Forest Lake your local QOV drop shop. QOV's should be a minimum size of 50" x 60"/maximum TWIN and quilted, either by hand or machine. It should include a label (with the name of the piecer, the quilter and a line for the recipient's name) and a pillowcase.
We can supply patterns for quilts, pillowcases and labels if needed (mstevens@brainerd.net). It is also nice to include a hand or typed message to the soldier. They really appreciate the thanks and encouragement.
- Make a quilt top and include the backing, binding and preferably the label (see above) and pillowcase. Don't worry about batting and quilting - we have longarmers who volunteer to do that part.
- Machine or hand quilt a QOV top. Contact Marcia Stevens at 218-828-9116 if you are willing to volunteer.
- Donate funds to the QOV non-profit foundation to offset the costs of making and shipping the QOVs to military hospitals. Or, donate fabrics to our local QOV group.
Join the thousands who have shown support and given tangible comfort to our physically, psychologically and spiritually wounded service members. Help make a Quilt of Valor. They DO make a difference in their lives!
The most frequent remark from a QOV recipient is: "We Didn't Know Anyone Cared."
